The history of our mesh 🧶

You already know our best : The sweater Anna ! This soft alpaca/silk knit is undoubtedly our best ally for winter.

You loved it! Today, we're going to tell you the story of the Anna sweater by taking you back to its source: the Alpaca 🐑

 Alpaca, an exceptional fiber

Among the different types of Alpaca fibers, Elleanor de Provence has chosen to promote the Baby Alpaca luxurious, soft and silky.

Alpaca fiber comes from the annual shearing of the animal with the same name. It is the most prestigious natural fiber the most prestigious natural fiber in the world because it has a large number of unique virtues.

Here are some of them:

  • Hypoallergenic
  • Resistant to UV radiation.
  • Water resistant and moisture wicking. Like all wool, it will keep you warm when wet.
  • More resistant than sheep fiber
  • Will not shrink if you follow proper care

In addition, there is a wide variety of wool that differs in properties and appearance.

We chose the alpaca which seemed to us the best alternative for the result we were looking for for our sweater: light but warm, soft, thermoregulatory, puffy but not too hairy.

A sweater knitted & assembled in one of the last knitting workshop in France

In the Hauts-de-Seine, the tradition of Armenian knitters who manufactured nearly half of the French sweaters in the mid-1980s is gradually dying out. Faced with relocation and globalization, most of them have disappeared.

As you know, at Ellenaor de Provence, we have very close ties with local craftsmen in order to enhance their know-howto support theemployability in their sector and to guarantee a superior quality within a human-sized workshop.

It was therefore important to us to knit our wool yarn in France in order to revitalize this declining sector on our own scale.

To date, we work with a family workshop located in Clamart which is one of the only ones still existing to make wool clothes.

A certified and controlled wool yarn

We have chosen an 72% Natural Italian Alpaca & Silk yarn for its softness.

Lhe wool yarn we use at Elleanor de Provence is certified Alpaca Mark which guarantees the quality of the Alpaca fiber and is mixed with silk which gives it an ultra silky touch.

To facilitate maintenance and extend the durability of the wool, this yarn also contains recycled polyamide, certified by the RCS Recycled Claim Standard, which ensures that the recycled raw materials are traceable and that the recycling process follows good social and environmental practices.
